Steve Williams was a 19-year-old carefree Topeka boy in 1969 when Uncle Sam called him to duty. When he boarded the airplane headed for Vietnam, with “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane” droning in the background, little did he know the impact that one year as a point man in the jungles of SE Asia would have on him.
Steve was drafted and served in the US Army from 1969-71 in the 101st Airborne Division where he was a machine gunner, point man and tunnel rat. Among his numerous medals are the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge.
After marrying Rosie in 1970, Steve finished an undergraduate degree in corrections from Washburn University and went on to obtain a master’s in management degree from Baker University. He worked as a juvenile probation officer and supervisor, retiring from Shawnee County Court Services in 2006.
Steve and Rosie have three adult sons, two daughters-in-law and six grandchildren.
Steve’s hobbies include fishing, woodworking, metal working, antiquing, restoring a Nam era jeep and substitute teaching adult classes at Topeka Bible Church. Steve is also a leader and facilitator for Reboot Recovery, a trauma recovery course for combat veterans.

Point Man International Ministries, Military Vehicle Preservation Association, Military Writer’s Society of America, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Topeka Bible Church, VFW, and Healing Waters.
Steve is co-author of Nine Pairs of Boots in Vietnam: Steps to Healing Every Veteran Needs to Know. He is currently a contributing author for a Sgt. Willie children’s series with Rosie.
